Early in my teaching career, I was challenged for not teaching the Zone System. Accepting an invitation to be in a regional faculty show with a bunch of Zone System guys who photographed the Nude in the Landscape, I did these 4x5 images to poke fun by using my underwear and making them look like perfect Zone System images. When studying photo in Chicago, we joked that everything was middle gray!
